Hi, I'm Scott, a software engineer that's been building things on the web for somewhere around 20 years. I honestly don't remember the exact number of years. Somewhere around 20. My work spans Ruby/Rails, Elixir, PHP, and JavaScript, with a focus on solving practical problems and making software easier to maintain.

I've built application integrations, expanded account access, and contributed to distributed payment systems using Rails and Elixir. My work includes migrating millions of records while keeping old and new systems running in parallel, protecting customer privacy with masked phone numbers, and taking features from design through deployment and operations.

I've led a small development team as Director of Engineering at Whitelabel Collaborative, where I made technology decisions, planned projects, worked with customers on requirements, and mentored junior developers. I've also worked independently with startups and Fortune 500 companies, building applications in Rails, React, and Laravel.

The part of software engineering I enjoy the most, aside from the people, I enjoy people the most, is working through the design: what a system needs to do, how its parts interact, and how we'll know it's behaving correctly in production. I now use AI agentic coding process to help with most of that, so I can focus on design and business solutions.
