Midwest Digital Conference 09

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending the inaugural Midwest Digital Conference. If you live in the Midwest and did not attend this event, you missed something big. It contained a huge panel of experts, all with a different take on social media and how it can effectively be used.

Conference Newbie

I am a newbie at conferences, so I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. What I received was a lot of information. Some of it worth while, some not so much. The most valuable information I brought back was to listen. By listening, I mean monitoring what is being said about you or your company internet wide. There are some great services for this. The one that was being represented at Module 09 was Radian 6, definitely worth checking out. While I am not a company, I definitely see myself as a brand. What I mean by that is that I am branding myself. Both in the online community of web professionals, and in my local community. So I took everything that was geared towards a business and tried to view how I could apply it to improve my image, or how I could use it   to extend my online network. a concept I hadn’t thought of before.

Highpoints

The best quote from the whole shebang? “I’m a Typist”. Chris Brogan put it all in perspective. How does he come up with great content regularly? He types. And when he is done, there is content, and he puts that content on the Internet. Dead simple. I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect from Chris. To be honest, I didn’t see what the big deal was. But I have to admit, he is a charismatic, intelligent, and funny person. He had my attention from start to finish. Ok, maybe not the entire time. I have to take a Twitter break every couple of minutes. But other than that, he had my attention.

This conference is to continue. I urge you to look into it. Prices are not bad, and the content is awesome. Here is a list of people involved:
